The rugged coastline at Devil’s Elbow State Park offers some of the most striking views of the Pacific Ocean along the central Oregon Coast. Beneath the towering slopes of Heceta Head, the shoreline unfolds in a dramatic combination of rocky cliffs, forested hills, offshore rocks, and restless ocean. Above this wild landscape, Heceta Head Lighthouse stands prominently on the headland, creating a memorable focal point against the wide Pacific horizon.
Looking outward from the park, the ocean seems almost endless, stretching toward the horizon beneath changing coastal skies. Waves continually roll toward the rocky shoreline, their white spray contrasting with dark cliffs and deep green vegetation. On clear days, the views are expansive, while coastal fog can drift across the water and soften the outlines of the headlands, creating an entirely different atmosphere.
The lighthouse adds a sense of history to the spectacular scenery. First illuminated in 1894, Heceta Head Lighthouse was built as a navigational aid for ships traveling this challenging section of the Pacific Northwest coast. Its elevated position offers a powerful reminder of the dangers faced by mariners navigating these waters.
For visitors, Devil’s Elbow is a place to pause and appreciate the scale of the Oregon Coast. The combination of historic lighthouse, rugged terrain, crashing surf, and sweeping Pacific views creates an unforgettable coastal experience.
