Bandon Harbor and its jetty create one of the most distinctive maritime landscapes along Oregon’s southern coast. Here, the Coquille River moves toward the Pacific, passing between the harbor and the long, rocky jetty that helps define the entrance to the river. Waves roll in from the open ocean, breaking against the rocks and sending spray into the coastal air.
The jetty provides a dramatic contrast to the calmer waters inside the harbor. Fishing boats and other vessels can often be seen along the waterfront, while the river reflects the changing sky and surrounding landscape. Beyond the jetty, the Pacific stretches toward the horizon, emphasizing the scale and power of the coastline.
Weather and tides continually transform the scene. On sunny days, the water can sparkle beneath a broad blue sky, while cloudy conditions create the moody atmosphere for which the Oregon Coast is famous. Stronger surf can make the jetty especially dramatic as waves surge against the rocks.
