Wizard’s Hat is one of the most recognizable sea stacks along Bandon Beach on the southern Oregon Coast. Rising offshore near the shoreline, this unusual rock formation gets its name from its distinctive shape, which resembles a pointed wizard’s hat. Its steep, dark sides and broad, rounded top make it especially striking when viewed from the beach.
Like many of Bandon’s offshore formations, Wizard’s Hat has been shaped by the forces of the Pacific Ocean over thousands of years. Waves, wind, tides, and erosion have gradually sculpted the surrounding coastline, leaving resistant rock standing above the water.
The formation looks different depending on the tide and weather. At low tide, visitors can walk along the beach and view Wizard’s Hat from different angles, while changing sunlight can highlight its rugged surface. During sunset, the rock can become a dramatic silhouette against the colorful Pacific sky.
Wizard’s Hat is part of the spectacular collection of sea stacks that makes Bandon Beach such a memorable destination. Along with Face Rock, Elephant Rock, and other formations, it creates a landscape where geology, ocean, light, and imagination come together.
