The famous Wizard's Hat on the rugged Oregon Coast at Bandon Beach. The view of the sea stacks in the distance. We love visiting this beautiful beach, bit of a drive from our house to Florence, then using Highway 101, the coastal route south to Bandon Beach, the journey takes about 2 hours.
Face Rock State Scenic Viewpoint is one of the most beautiful and distinctive places to visit along the southern Oregon Coast. Located near Bandon Beach, this scenic area provides stunning views of the Pacific Ocean, sandy shoreline, rugged cliffs, and dramatic sea stacks. Its most famous feature, Face Rock, rises from the ocean and has a shape that has inspired stories, legends, and the imagination of visitors for generations.
The landscape has been shaped over thousands of years by the powerful forces of the Pacific Ocean. Waves, wind, tides, and erosion have gradually carved the coastline, creating towering sea stacks, rocky outcrops, and unusual formations. At low tide, visitors can walk along the beach, discover tide pools, photograph the rocks, and enjoy the natural beauty of the shoreline. The area is also especially impressive at sunset, when the changing light creates beautiful silhouettes across the ocean.
Face Rock has cultural significance as well. Traditional stories of the Coquille Indian Tribe are connected to the distinctive rock formations, adding an important human and cultural dimension to the landscape.
With its combination of natural beauty, fascinating geology, cultural history, and peaceful ocean views, Face Rock State Scenic Viewpoint is a memorable destination for anyone exploring the Oregon Coast.
