Wizard's Hat at the rugged Bandon Beach Oregon Coast. The Wizard's Hat, is a unique rock formation, with the top of the rock pointing to the sky. We love visiting this beach, as we live over 90 miles away, we usually stay at the Great Western at Face Rock Inn. They welcome dogs which is great as some motels, or hotels will not.
Face Rock State Scenic Viewpoint is one of the most memorable coastal attractions near Bandon Beach on Oregon’s southern coast. Located just south of the town of Bandon, the viewpoint offers visitors spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean, sandy beaches, and dramatic offshore sea stacks. The area is especially famous for Face Rock, a large rock formation whose distinctive shape has inspired stories, legends, and generations of visitors.
The coastline around Face Rock has been shaped by powerful ocean waves, wind, tides, and erosion over thousands of years. These natural forces have created an impressive collection of sea stacks, arches, cliffs, and rocky islands that change in appearance with the weather and light. At low tide, visitors can walk along sections of the beach and explore tide pools, rocks, and driftwood, while always keeping an eye on changing ocean conditions.
Face Rock State Scenic Viewpoint is also a place where natural beauty and Indigenous cultural traditions come together. Local Coquille Indian Tribe stories connect the landscape with important traditional narratives, giving the rocks meaning beyond their geological appearance.
Whether visiting for photography, sightseeing, a peaceful beach walk, or a spectacular sunset, Face Rock offers an unforgettable experience on the Oregon Coast.
