The Millennium Bridge spans the River Thames in London, creating a striking pedestrian route between St Paul’s Cathedral and Tate Modern. Near Blackfriars, it offers one of the city’s most memorable riverside views, where historic architecture, modern landmarks and the constantly moving river come together in a single scene.
Opened in 2000, the steel footbridge quickly became an important part of London’s riverside landscape. Its slender design gives it a distinctive appearance, while the broad pedestrian walkway provides an excellent vantage point over the Thames. From the bridge, visitors can watch boats and river cruises passing beneath the span, with the water reflecting the changing light of the London sky.
The surrounding area is equally rich in character. Blackfriars and the nearby South Bank combine centuries of history with galleries, restaurants, theatres and busy riverside paths. Looking along the Thames reveals a constantly changing panorama of bridges, buildings and boats, making the Millennium Bridge particularly appealing to photographers and visitors exploring central London on foot.
Whether viewed from the riverbank or crossed on foot, the Millennium Bridge captures the character of modern London while remaining closely connected to the historic River Thames.
